Today, Tuesday, members of the “Algeria-Indonesia” Friendship Parliamentary Group, headed by Mohamed Yazid Ben Hamouda, Chairman of the Group, held a meeting at the Council’s headquarters, via videoconference technology, with their Indonesian counterparts, led by the Group’s Chairman, Sihar Citrus,

This meeting was attended by His Excellency the Indonesian Ambassador to Algeria, Shaliaf Akbar, and Suleiman Belhaddad, representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the national community abroad.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ben Hamouda considered that this meeting would be foundational for other meetings, stressing that Algeria’s relations with Indonesia are exceptional and distinct because Indonesia was the incubator of our glorious revolution and enabled it to participate in the Bandung Conference in 1955, which was the first international platform in which Algeria’s voice was raised.

At the parliamentary level, Mr. Ben Hamouda highlighted the necessity of activating the work of the two friendship groups, starting with the resurgence of the cooperation protocol signed between the two chambers in Jakarta in December 2010, with the aim of strengthening relations to serve the interests of the two countries in the parliamentary economic, energy, cultural and educational fields.

At the international level, the head of the group denounced the ferocious aggression carried out by the Israeli occupation against the defenseless Palestinian people, explaining that its actions constitute a full-fledged war crime.

During his intervention, Citrus indicated that this meeting came to give the two sides an opportunity to discuss several topics of interest to the two countries, such as climate change and sustainable development, and stressed that parliamentary coordination allows discussing these issues in a way that contributes to achieving prosperity for the two peoples.

On the other hand, the speaker extended his sincere thanks for building a landmark for leader Sukarno in Algeria, which symbolizes the great role this personality played in supporting Algerian independence, adding that the depth of relations and the long common history between the two countries will contribute to strengthening democratic values and cultural exchange between the two peoples.

When taking the floor, the Indonesian Ambassador to Algeria expressed his satisfaction with the distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries, which are good and distinguished, and explained that he is fully prepared to support cooperation between the two parliamentary institutions in the future.

In his speech, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad indicated that this meeting represents a continuation of the efforts made by the two countries to improve bilateral cooperation at various levels, noting at the same time Sihar Citrus’ keenness on the need to strengthen communication between the parliamentarians of the two countries.
