Al-Jaza’i stressed that strategic agriculture represents one of the pillars of national sovereignty, noting that it depends on the people for widespread consumption such as grains, legumes, potatoes, tomatoes and other daily basic necessities for the citizen. He added that the state’s general strategy focuses on strengthening the people who constitute strengths to achieve self-sufficiency and export the surplus, while supporting priority people such as barley and corn.
Professor Hartani revealed, while hosting a program this Thursday “Morning guest” To the first radio channel, Algeria is seeking to achieve sustainability, as confirmed by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during his supervision of the commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the General Union of Algerian Peasants. He explained that this sustainability is based on achieving a balance between exploiting resources such as soil, water, and seeds, and adapting them to the climate, within a strategy that extends until the horizons of 2040.
The Director of the National Higher School of Agricultural Sciences pointed out that scientific research plays a pivotal role in providing accurate indicators to decision makers to implement this strategy. He added that the development of the grain sector is taking place according to a participatory plan between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and other sectors, which is currently being implemented by specialized committees in model states, taking into account the specificities of each region in selecting seeds and cultivation methods.
Regarding reliance on irrigation with used water, Hartani considered that this approach is necessary to increase soil productivity, noting the importance of raising the percentage of reliance on it from 10% to between 30% and 40%. He also stressed the need to exploit it optimally, taking into account choosing suitable sites to establish filtration stations.
At the conclusion of his speech, the “Channel One guest” emphasized that smart agriculture, which relies on scientific research and technological development, is a subject of global interest because it provides a suitable environment for agricultural crops and contributes to improving quality and yield. He explained that Algeria is working to implement this plan to include the development of animal populations as well, noting the involvement of farmers in this path with the support and accompaniment of specialized engineers.
