The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohamed Abdel Hafeez Heni, said Monday in Algiers that preparations are under way to launch three national programs aimed at expanding the production of dates and olives, as well as protecting breeders.
In his statement, on the sidelines of the opening of the 2023/2024 regular parliamentary session in the National Assembly, Hani indicated that the national program to expand areas planted with olive trees, especially in the steppes and the south, “we will launch during the current year.”
He also highlighted the importance of the national program to protect breeders, especially in terms of distributing subsidized fodder, as well as the program to expand the production of dates, which are being worked on, according to the minister.
As for compensation for farmers affected by drought, lack of rain or floods, the minister said that “in-kind compensation will be launched, with the distribution of the subsidy for the current agricultural season,” reaffirming that the state stands by them.
As for the agricultural production of widely consumed items such as vegetables and fruits, as well as red and white meat, the minister stressed that “strict measures will be taken as soon as possible, to provide various materials and ensure price stability.”
