FIFA is seriously considering punishing Israel – New Algeria

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) is seriously considering punishing Israel sportingly, due to the horrific violations committed by the Zionist occupation in Palestine.

The website reported,Sky News ArabiaToday, Friday, FIFA announced that FIFA is seeking independent legal advice before holding an extraordinary meeting of the FIFA Council, by next July 25, to take a decision on the Palestinian proposal to suspend Israel’s participation in international matches due to the war in Gaza.

The same website reported, quoting the Associated Press, that the President of the International Federation of Association Football, Gianni Infantino, said during the International Football Association Congress held today, Friday, in the Thai capital, Bangkok: “As of now, FIFA will delegate an independent legal expert to analyze the three requests.” From the Palestinian Football Association) and to ensure that the FIFA Statutes are implemented in the correct manner.”

Infantino explained: “This legal evaluation must allow for the input and claims of both member associations. The results and recommendations… will be referred to the FIFA Council.”

He continued: “Given the seriousness of the situation, an extraordinary FIFA Council will be held before July 25 to review the results of the legal evaluation and take appropriate decisions.”

The Palestinian Football Association had submitted a proposal to 211 FIFA members calling for “appropriate sanctions, with immediate effect, against Israeli football clubs,” according to FIFA documents released a month before the meeting. FIFA Congress Today is Friday bBangkok.

The proposal referred to “violations of international law committed by the Israeli occupation in Palestine, especially in Gaza,” and referred to FIFA’s legal obligations on human rights and against discrimination.
