Economist Mourad Kouachi: Major projects in clean energies enhance Algeria’s energy status – New Algeria
In its forward-looking strategies, Algeria is moving towards investing in clean energies, given the central and strategic position that this important energy resource has in the global economic equation. In recent years, the country’s higher authorities have been working to launch important projects in the field as a step to diversify its energy mix on the one hand and thus preserve Its position in the energy market as a safe and reliable energy supplier.
This trend is translated into the energy transition plan. In order to meet the growing demand for energy in a sustainable, economical and safe way, Algeria sets a goal of reaching 30 percent of the energy mix as renewable energies by 2035. This comprehensive and ambitious plan is embodied through the National Renewable Energy Program, which aims to achieve A capacity of 15,000 megawatts, as the completion of 3,000 megawatts has already been launched.
In this regard, economic expert Professor Mourad Kouachi confirmed in a telephone call to “elhiwar us” that the energy transition plan and project, in which Algeria is moving towards investing in clean energies, exporting them, and directing their revenues to national development, is an important strategic project, through which it aims to achieve a smooth transition. Alternative and renewable energies.
The professor continued in the same context, saying: “We have recently noticed the launch of major projects in exploiting green hydrogen and exporting it, as the relevant authorities pay special attention to developing green hydrogen through national model projects as the beginning of a first phase before moving on to exporting this future and clean energy material to Europe.” Later, it is expected – the same speaker adds – that Algeria will export electricity to Italy, Austria and Switzerland through the southern corridor, and there is a project to produce solar energy, as well as projects to export electricity to Europe, especially through the submarine “cable”. Which will connect Annaba to Sicily, Italy.
In a different context, Mourad Kouachi praised the giant steps that Algeria is taking in electricity production, stressing that it has achieved a surplus in electricity production because electricity consumption at the present time has reached a peak of 19 thousand megawatts, while domestic production has reached about 25 megawatts.
In the same context, the economic expert added: “The step that follows is a surplus that will be exported. Algeria currently exports significant quantities of electricity annually through new electricity production stations.
Algeria will turn in the near future into a pole in the Mediterranean region, as it is one of the few countries that has a surplus in electricity production. Algeria will soon be known as a pole for producing and exporting electricity, whether to neighboring countries such as Tunisia or to European countries such as Italy.
On the other hand, Professor Mourad Kouachi considered that the embodiment of this ambitious project will be through adopting effective mechanisms developed by Sonelgaz and Sonatrach and in partnership with giant international companies such as the German partner, especially for the production of green hydrogen. We have recently noticed – says the spokesman – that the completion of a production station Green hydrogen in Oran, and there are other projects to produce electrical energy, which confirms that these projects, whether from Sonatrach or Sonelgaz, through major European companies, will allow for an increase in the production of renewable energies in Algeria Therefore, Algeria will be recognized as a leader in electricity production.
Regarding the impact of this plan on the national economy, Kouachi stressed, saying: “The implementation of Algeria’s plan, which aims to actually invest in clean energies, export them, and direct their revenues to national development, is a positive reflection on the national economy, by increasing the state’s revenues from hard currency and increasing Algeria’s energy exports.” “Whether renewable energies or fossil energies, which will reflect positively on Algeria’s energy position in the Mediterranean region.”
