Distribution of 40,000 “adjusted” housing units at the beginning of 2024
The Minister of Housing, Urbanism and the City, Mohamed Tariq Laraibi, gave instructions on the necessity of accelerating the pace of works and work continuously, as well as respecting the deadlines for completion and delivery of various residential projects being completed. He also ordered the formation of a joint ministerial committee to follow up on projects to connect 40,000 housing units to potable water and sewage channels at the city level. This came during the supervision of the same minister, accompanied by the Minister of Irrigation, Taha Darbal, and the governor of the state of Algiers, Mohamed Abdel Nour Rabhi, on a visit to several new residential sites in the administrative district of Sidi Abdellah.
The visit, which was also attended by central directors from the Ministry of Housing, Urbanism, the City and the Ministry of Irrigation, during which a technical meeting was held on the site of 6,000 housing units in the new city of Sidi Abdullah, which are ready for delivery.
The official delegation inspected the projects related to supplying the new urban poles with potable water and disinfection, in addition to inspecting a works project linking the “Fouka 2” seawater desalination plant to the potable water network. The visit was also held with the aim of examining the various technical problems that affected the speed of progress of the works and taking action. Decisions were made in order to enable the technical departments of the state of Algiers to begin the work. Explanations and presentations were provided for the various projects being completed related to the housing and irrigation sectors, while instructions were given on the necessity of accelerating the pace of the work and working on the “3 by 8” system to respect the delivery deadlines for all projects.
The meeting included a presentation on the master plan for the sewage and potable water networks, presented by the Director General of the New City and the Director of Irrigation for the State of Algiers. The ministers agreed to establish a joint committee between the two sectors that closely follows the extent of implementation of the instructions provided and works to resolve all obstacles.
With regard to sewage channels, a presentation was made about two sewage filtration stations. The first station is located on the northern side and has entered into service, while the second station located on the southern side is in the process of completion, with an estimated progress rate of 75 percent. The works will end at the end of next March.
With regard to the potable water network, a presentation was made on the status of the 6 water complexes, one of which is in service, while the rest of the complexes are in the process of completion and distributed across 2 2 Regarding Block 10000, for which 100 percent work has been completed, the Water Resources Directorate is supervising its completion.

On the other hand, a presentation was made on the progress of works to connect potable water channels inside and outside residential sites, which would eliminate the problem of water supply to the residents of the new city of Sidi Abdullah, in addition to providing potable water in a smooth and regular manner for 35,644 distributed housing units. Through the site of 10,636 housing units, the site of 2,121 housing units, the site of 1,500 housing units, the site of 760 housing units, the site of 13,300 housing units, and finally the site of 6,234 housing units.
The delegation then headed to the water filtration station located on the southern side, where it reviewed the progress of its completion works, then to the site of the completion of the 30,000 m3 water complex, where the Minister of Housing, Urbanism and the City issued instructions requiring the necessity of accelerating the pace of works on the water filtration station.
The next destination was the site for the completion of the water complex 2 x 7,500 m3, where the ministers inspected the progress of the off-site connection works to potable water channels, so that the ministerial delegation concluded its visit to the site for the completion of the water complex 2 x 25,000 m3, where the ministers inspected the progress of the completion works, as the Director General of Algeria presented. Water made a presentation about the Fouka 2 desalination plant.
