Derbal: Towards the implementation of projects related to protecting cities from floods – Algerian Dialogue

The Minister explained, during a public session to ask oral questions in the National Assembly headed by Saleh Qojil, Speaker of the Council, that “all projects related to protecting cities from the danger of floods and the works to prepare the valleys and waterways associated with them fall within the national strategy adopted by the sector in this regard,” stressing the commitment to The Ministry “implemented it for the purpose of improving the living conditions of citizens and protecting their property.”

This strategy includes “accurate identification of the areas and locations threatened by flood risk, as well as its degree for each region, in addition to the steps and procedures that must be taken to prevent it before it occurs,” adds the first official in charge of the sector.

In this context, and in response to a concern regarding the completion of the remaining two parts of the project to protect the city of Ain Guezzam from the danger of floods, the Minister confirmed that after the completion of the first part, worth 400 million DZD, “the process of completing the remainder of it will be recorded in the year 2025, while providing the necessary financial cover for it.” “.

On the other hand, and in his response to a question related to the “Souani” Dam in the state of Tlemcen, whose completion began in the early 1990s and was stopped due to security reasons during that period,

Derbal explained that the sector had “thought about the possibility of launching this vital project given its importance, especially with regard to providing agricultural irrigation water.”

In this context, the interests of the Irrigation Directorate of the state of Tlemcen will conduct an updated diagnostic study of this dam in order to review its condition and all the data related to it, which will be a reference for any measures taken in the future regarding this dam,” according to the minister.
