Demands for the import of Eid sacrifices – New Algeria

The Algerian Consumer Defense Organization called on the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to take proactive steps to confront the high prices in… Prices Qurbani is a holiday that Algeria has known for years.

In a statement issued by the organization, it revealed that it had submitted “an official proposal to the Minister of Agriculture, stipulating the import of Eid sacrifices for the year 2024, with the aim of creating a kind of balance and covering the national market so that it is within the reach of the citizen.”

For reference, the Ministry of Agriculture, in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce, worked to import significant quantities of sheep during the current month of Ramadan, in order to control the market and reduce prices.

The prices of sacrificial animals this year are witnessing an astonishing rise, exceeding the reasonable level, as data from points of sale of Eid rams across the country indicate that the Algerian consumer, especially those with limited income, has found himself unable to purchase the Eid sacrifice in light of the terrible inflammation it causes.

According to the head of the National Agricultural Chamber, Mohamed Yazid Hambali, “The reasons for the rise in the prices of sacrifices this year are due to the outrageous high cost of fodder, which the loyalists suffer from, as he said 3 years ago, as well as the lack of natural herbs, and the breeder is the one who pays the price,” noting that even the female sheep “The ewe” consumes a lot of expenses, and the large number of participants in the livestock market, and the growth of intermediaries also has a major role in the rise in the prices of sacrifices, calling on the public authorities to open organized markets for the sale of rams, but the justification for “high fodder prices” is rejected by the Ministry of Agriculture, as She previously confirmed that the prices of livestock feed materials are “extremely stable,” refuting all statements that talk about the rise in the prices of livestock feed materials, stressing that “every statement to the contrary by brokers and speculators has no basis in truth.”

Hambali said, “We must search for the real culprits behind the high prices of sacrifices, who are waiting for the Eid al-Adha season in order to absorb the blood of the Algerian citizen, and not throw arrows of accusation at the loyalists and the oppressed breeders.”

Prices Rams The rise continues on the eve of Eid al-Adha

The prices of Eid sacrifices have risen unprecedentedly, at a rate ranging between 20 and 25 percent compared to their price last year, which has sparked widespread controversy among the community, who believe that the reason is the educators and loyalists raising the price of the sacrifices, and some of them went on to accuse them of greed, while the loyalists use the excuse of high prices. Feed compared to previous years, as well as brokers entering the market and controlling prices.

As Eid al-Adha approaches, the livestock price exchange continues to rise across the various markets and points of sale approved by the Ministry of Commerce across the various states of the country less than 48 hours before Eid al-Adha, especially for sheep and rams, where the price of a small sacrifice is no less than five million centimes, and they were bought. Previously, it was three and a half million at most. As for the average sheep, its price is now no less than eight million centimes, and may reach ten if its weight is large. As for ordinary sacrifices, their price this year ranges between 11 and 13 million centimes and may reach up to 14 million.
