On Wednesday, the official website of the Confederation of African Football published the expanded list of the national team, which included 50 players in anticipation of the team’s participation in the finals of the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Coach Djamel Belmadi will have to reduce the number to 27 players ten days before the start of the tournament, in accordance with CAF regulations that force the 24 teams participating in the tournament to send them on that date.
The African Confederation increased the number of players registered in the final lists of the teams from 23 to 27 players, starting from the Ivory Coast tournament.
The participating federations will be left free to register the four players or not, while each team is forced to include only 23 players during the competition matches.
No player can be replaced unless it is proven that he is injured, and after the CAF Medical Committee has examined his file.
Federation officials are obligated to compensate the player at least 24 hours before the date of the first match played by his national team.
Five local names
The national coach included the names of five local players in the preliminary list.
The matter concerns Mouloudia Algiers star Youssef Belaili and his teammate Djamel Belamri, in addition to the USM duo, goalkeeper Osama Ben Bout and defender Zinedine Belaid, and Chabab Belouizdad club goalkeeper Wahab Rais M’Bolhi.
It was also reported that other stars who made local clubs happy before playing professionally abroad were summoned, such as Ayman Mahyous and Haitham Loussif from the Swiss club Yverdon, and Amir Saeed, the playmaker of the Saudi Al-Raed club.
The national team will begin its competitive journey by meeting the Angola national team next January 15, on the field of Al-Salam Stadium in the city of Bouaké.
