Boughali: The year 2024 will be the year of Western Sahara par excellence – Algerian Dialogue

Ibrahim Bougali, President of the National People’s Assembly, received today, Sunday, at the Council’s headquarters, his counterpart, Mr. Hamma Salama, President of the Sahrawi National Council, and his accompanying delegation.

At the beginning of the talks, the President of the Council considered that this meeting falls within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between the parliaments of the two countries and giving them a higher pace, especially in light of the important dates awaited.

Regarding these dates, the President of the Council spoke about the international symposium scheduled to be held next February to support the Sahrawi issue and explained that it will be prepared according to a scientific approach aimed at restoring the Sahrawi issue to its true perspective.

Bougali considered that the scope is open to mobilize more support for the just Sahrawi cause, especially in Africa and Latin America. He pointed out that there is a suitable environment for this that must be exploited, and he added that the coming year will be the year of Western Sahara par excellence.

In the same context, Bougali continued that the defense of the Sahrawi issue must gain additional momentum to achieve greater spread and break the media siege. He added that cultural, artistic and sporting activities would enhance the diplomatic and political effort that seeks to enable the Sahrawi people to obtain their right to self-determination and extend… Sovereignty over its natural resources.

For his part, Hamma Salama praised the diplomatic efforts made by Algerian parliamentarians in defense of the Sahrawi issue, stressing that they conveyed strong messages in the various forums in which they participated.

Regarding the international symposium on Western Sahara, Hama Salama considered that thinking about creating an international parliamentary network to defend the issue is vital, and stressed the importance of following up on the outcomes of the activities organized to support the issue, especially international seminars, so that the effort made is activated.

In another context, Mr. Salama considered that the Sahrawi parliamentarians were keen to benefit from the experience of the Algerian Parliament in their formation, and he considered the National People’s Assembly a directional compass that always points to the Algerian revolutionary character firm on its principles.

Finally, the presidents of the two councils stressed that colonized peoples are always vulnerable to practices far from legal, humanitarian and moral frameworks by the occupying powers. In this context, Mr. Boghali pointed out, denouncing the double standards with which the international community deals with the Palestinian people, who are facing unprecedented atrocities in front of their eyes. And the world heard without taking any concrete measures to deter the occupier and protect the defenseless.

The meeting was attended by M’hamed Tawil, Fatih Boutabek and Abdelkader Breich, who are respectively heads of the parliamentary groups of the National Democratic Rally, the Future Front and the National Construction Movement, along with Mr. Said Ayachi, Chairman of the National Committee for Support of the Sahrawi People.
