Blida University.. A consensus on the importance of the role of civil society in curtailing drugs – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazaeryia

Today, Tuesday, specialists in psychology and sociology unanimously agreed on the great role that associations and civil society can play in reducing the scourge of drug addiction by allocating an effective awareness program that targets especially the youth.
Drawing an awareness study day on “the health, professional, social and economic dangers of drug addiction” at “Saad Dahlab” University in Blida. It targets especially the group of young people who are most likely to fall into the trap of addiction.
In this regard, Prof. Yassine Boukarmouh, from the Department of Mental Diseases at the “Franxfannon” hospital, stressed the importance of adopting a pre-treatment prevention policy to curb “the recorded rise in the number of addicts during the last ten years compared to the eighties.”

He called on the heads of scientific clubs at the university and youth institutions to intensify awareness campaigns aimed at warning of the dangers and repercussions of drug addiction, including health, psychological and financial ones, by adopting methods and language that are understood and convinced by the targeted youth group to ensure the achievement of the desired results.

For his part, the sociology professor, Noureddine Bakis, focused in his intervention on the importance of the oversight role, whether within the educational institution or the family, to protect children and youth from falling into the abyss of addiction, in addition to intensifying awareness-raising work and adopting the language that today’s youth understand.

Professor Bakis also touched on the reasons that drive young people, especially to drug consumption, which he summarized in three points represented in “discomfort from the past because of events that happened to them that still affect their psyche, boredom with the present, and apprehension about the future,” he said.

On the same occasion, leaflets were distributed to university students, including tips and instructions on how to deal with an addicted person, ways to help him and persuade him to quit, in addition to information about the types of natural and manufactured drugs and their danger to physical and psychological health.
