Ben Jama calls for an investigation into attacks on Palestinians in prisons – New Algeria
The Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations in New York called on Ambassador Ammar bin Jama, stressed the need to conduct investigations into the attacks targeting Palestinians in prisons Zionism.
Ammar Ben Jama pointed out during his intervention, in a special session of the United Nations, that we cannot tolerate the violence that Palestinians are exposed to in prisons. OccupationHe stressed the need to punish the perpetrators within the limits of the law.
Ben Jama highlighted that there are more than 3,484 administrative detainees without trial, expressing his hope that Mr. Patel will be granted permission to visit many detention centers where human rights are being violated against Palestinians.
Algeria’s permanent representative to the United Nations in New York added that Ms. Battle’s presence in Gaza would have given her an opportunity to directly examine the extent of the violations that Palestinians are subjected to by the occupation forces, and to convey them to the international community, and this participation would contribute to raising the level of awareness about Challenges faced by Palestinians.
The representative of Algeria also called for independent investigations into cases of sexual violence in the Gaza Strip, noting that Palestinian women have been subjected to all forms of violence by the Zionist occupation.
In the same context, Mr. Ben Jama referred to Palestinian women who have suffered for decades from the impact of continuous aggression, facing discrimination and untold violence on several fronts, and that the Palestinian population, especially women, “have been subjected to many attacks that violate the essence of their humanity and dignity.”
The same official also expressed his regret that this critical situation “is not a recent phenomenon, but rather continued throughout the occupation period and was exacerbated by the policy of collective punishment.”
Mr. Ben Jama believes that violence against Palestinians, regardless of their gender or origin, is not just a sporadic act, but rather a deliberate and continuous policy adopted by the occupation authorities.
He also did not hide his regret, saying: “Responsible officials often remain protected from punishment. Since 2001, despite 1,400 complaints filed by Palestinians about acts of torture, only three criminal investigations have been opened. Surprisingly, no investigation led to an indictment.”
On the other hand, it was reported that in 2022, during a horrific incident, the Zionist authorities described (the International Organization for the Defense of Children’s Rights – Palestine) as a terrorist entity after condemning the Zionist forces’ rape of a Palestinian girl at the age of fifteen (15).
Bin Jama warns of the systematic violation of human rights
Bin Jamaa warned that the systematic violation of the human rights of Palestinian women constitutes a grave injustice and a violation of their right to life, health, education, and subsistence.
Mr. Bin Jama then reviewed the situation in the Gaza Strip by presenting figures showing that 31,000 Palestinians have been killed by the occupation forces since October 7, including more than 9,000 women, in addition to the injury of 75 percent of women out of 72,000 wounded. . Of the 7,000 missing persons, 70 percent are women and children.
He went on to say that about one million forcibly displaced people are women, i.e. half of the total forcibly displaced Palestinians. Palestinian human rights organizations point to the intensification of arrest operations carried out by the Zionist occupation, which particularly affect women.”
More than 8,000 Palestinians have been arrested since October 7
In this regard, the ambassador explained that more than 8,000 Palestinians have been arrested since October 7. This dangerous situation, in light of the refusal of visits to prisons and the failure to inform the International Committee of the Red Cross of arrests, aroused the dissatisfaction of United Nations experts, who expressed “deep concern about the arbitrary detention of hundreds of Palestinian women and girls, especially by subjecting many of them to inhuman and degrading treatment.”
Also addressing the atrocities committed by the Zionist occupier in Palestine, Mr. Bin Jama pointed out that “cases have been reported in which Palestinian women in Gaza were detained in a cage in the rain and cold, without food.”
The United Nations experts also expressed, according to the ambassador, their “deep regret” over the physical and psychological violations against detained Palestinian women and girls, which are detailed in the reports, noting that they are exposed to many forms of sexual assault.
Mr. Ben Jama believes that what the Palestinians, especially women, are experiencing is a real test of the credibility of international law and the global framework set forth in Security Council resolutions.
He concluded by saying: “I conclude my speech with the poignant words of Ms. Paula Gaviria Bettencourt, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons, when she said: “+The international community must abandon the illusion that the Zionist entity will respect the principles of international humanitarian law and human rights in its military operations.” “.
