The Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Youssef Belmehdi, called for the need to be careful and wary of what is being plotted against us, noting that “our religious authority is our spiritual and moral weapon with which we repel the evil of our enemies.”

On Friday, Youssef Belmehdi supervised the official celebration of the National Day of the Imam, organized in the lecture hall in the state of Ghardaia, in the presence of the governor of the state, Abi Nawar Abdullah, the head of the state People’s Assembly, Suleiman Haj Said, the local civil and military authorities, and a number of notables from the state, in addition to Imams, scholars, professors and religious guides from various states of the country, with the participation of the Dean of the Grand Mosque of Paris, Shams al-Din Hafid, and imams assigned abroad via remote video lecture technology.

The same minister stressed that the imam contributed greatly to preserving the Islamic identity of Algerians, praising the role of the imam in building society and educating young people and the morals of public life.

In this context, Minister Belmehdi stressed the necessity of strengthening training in the religious field to keep pace with the requirements of contemporary life in which there is no place except for the strong. In his speech, Belmehdi called for the necessity of preserving the Islamic identity of Algerians, highlighting the great role played by the Imam in this context.

It should be noted that the official celebration of the National Day of the Imam, which falls on September 15 of each year, was launched on Friday morning, which was approved by the President of the Republic, in appreciation and gratitude for the role played by this body in strengthening the foundations of religious authority and strengthening national identity.

This year, the state of Ghardaia hosted the official celebrations of the National Day of the Imam, organized under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, under the slogan “The Imamate… a message and a trust.”

Algerian imams commemorate their National Day, which falls on September 15 of each year, which was approved by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in appreciation and gratitude for the scientific, cultural and social roles played by the imams who yesterday participated in liberating the nation and today contribute to enlightening society in order to promote the approach of moderation and preserve national identity. The National Radio website reported that Imam Day coincides with the anniversary of the death of Sheikh Sidi Mohamed Belkabir, and the day was demarcated in a message addressed by the President of the Republic to the participants in the 19th National Forum to commemorate the death of Sheikh Belkabir in Adrar, in the year 2021.

In the 40th issue of the Official Gazette issued last June, Presidential Decree No. 22-2142 dated Dhu al-Qa’dah 8, 1443, corresponding to June 8, 2022, included the designation of September 15 as a National Day for the Imam.

This day is celebrated every year across the entire national territory through various demonstrations and religious activities in appreciation of the Imam’s position, status, and scientific, cultural, and social role in strengthening the bases of religious authority and strengthening national identity.
