Attaf: Algeria proudly preserves the contributions of its women who recorded their presence in the prominent stages of the country’s history – Algerian Dialogue


The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, said in a speech during the General Debate of the Security Council on the topic “Women, Peace and Security,” that “Algeria preserves with great pride the contributions of its female companions who registered their presence at all the prominent stations in the history of our country.”
Attaf explained, “Twenty-three years have passed since this Council adopted the historic Resolution No. 1325, which is the decision that established the international community’s recognition of the vital role that women play, especially in preventing, protecting and mitigating the effects of conflicts, and even, in many cases and most of them, in developing peaceful settlements.” And sustainable for it.”
The Minister stressed that “and in confirmation of what was stated in the speech of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during his participation in the general debate of the current session of the General Assembly, my country adopted, last July, a national plan of action with the aim of providing its contribution to achieving the purposes of this international resolution aimed at strengthening the position of Women in peace and security and their effective role in bringing peace everywhere, at all times, and under all circumstances.”
In this context, Attaf added that the adoption of the national action plan aimed at implementing Resolution 1325, as stipulated in the fourth recommendation of the latest report of the Secretary-General of the United Nations on this subject, will have a significant impact in strengthening this trend and consolidating the gains that Algeria has achieved in this regard. context, especially with regard to strengthening the process of recruiting women into the security and military services for the purpose of effective participation in maintaining security and stability, and supporting the access and promotion of women to leadership positions in security bodies.
In addition – Etaf adds – to raising awareness among women and men of the importance of women’s participation in the security and military sectors and encouraging involvement in them, and by enhancing the presence of women in various national, regional and international bodies related to peace and security, and by training leading female employees in the security and military bodies on negotiation and conflict management techniques. And its solution is to prepare them for regional and international peacekeeping tasks, and by creating a database of women who have experience in negotiation and peacekeeping processes and women qualified to do so, as well as by involving the active feminist element in civil society and the collective movement in all fields.
On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad said that Algeria, like other countries, is not immune from the repercussions imposed by international and regional developments, especially what the Sahel-Saharan region is witnessing, which is witnessing an unprecedented deterioration in the situation as a result of the increase, expansion and exacerbation of hotbeds of tensions, crises and conflicts in Image of an “arc of insecurity and instability” extending from the Red Sea to the Atlantic Ocean.
From this perspective, Attaf adds, “The action plan adopted by my country, with its three basic axes (participation, prevention and protection), constitutes a proactive and preventive strategy aimed at advancing the status of women in society and acknowledging their role in the field of peace and security, especially by supporting their participation in negotiations and conservation operations.” Peace and peacebuilding in a lasting and sustainable way.”
Attaf concluded his speech by paying tribute to the Palestinian women for their steadfastness in the face of the brutal aggression of the Zionist occupation against the besieged Gaza Strip and for their flogging in the face of what is being plotted against the Palestinian cause. He also saluted the steadfastness of Sahrawi women in defending the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination “according to what our council established.” This includes decisions, references and controls.”
