Experts and professors praised the positive steps taken by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the field of scientific research and training, which made Algerian universities top various international classifications, which are positive indicators that scientific research is on the right path.
The director of the New Media Research and Studies Laboratory at the University of M’sila, Professor Mohamed Dahmani, explained that Algeria’s issuance, for the fourth time in a row, of the results of the impact factor of reference citations for Arab scientific journals “ARCIF” in the eighth annual report for the year 2023, is a positive indicator that the positive steps taken by the Ministry Higher education and scientific research in the field of scientific publishing and academic production to promote Algerian journals as well as for greater visibility of Algerian universities.
Professor Mohamed Dahmani revealed that Algerian universities count more than 900 scientific journals, including nearly 300 journals classified as “C” and more than 10 journals classified as “B.” These numbers do not reflect the true scientific and research qualifications of Algerian researchers and authors in various specializations.
The director of the New Media Research and Studies Laboratory also added that the strategy developed by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as part of his program to advance the Algerian university, improve training, and promote scientific publishing and academic production, attaches great importance to the greater visibility of Algerian universities and scientific publishing, stressing that these results reflect the efforts that The Ministry is making efforts in the field of scientific publishing and improving it, as well as improving the ranking of university and research institutions in various international classifications.
On the other hand, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of M’sila, Dr. Taqi al-Din Yahya, confirmed that Algeria topped the Arab countries in the number of authors whose research was cited with more than 15 thousand authors at the expense of long-established Arab countries in the field of scientific publishing, such as Egypt, which ranked second, and Iraq, which ranked second. Thirdly, this confirms the interest that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research gives to scientific publishing and academic production and to work for greater visibility of Algerian universities, as well as for greater visibility of scientific research and studies in accordance with standards and criteria for publishing in various global databases.
The same speaker pointed out that there are 56 Algerian researchers on the 2 percent list of the best scientists for the year 2023, the most distinguished and influential in the world, which is issued annually by the American Stanford University. Algerian universities also rank among the Maghreb countries and rank second in Africa in a classification by the American Times magazine for young universities, and the inclusion of 23 Algerian universities in the latest classification. The Times Magazine for the year 2024 has all positive indicators that scientific research and training in universities are on the right path.
The impact factor of reference citations for Arab scientific journals “ARCIF”, in its eighth edition of 2023, is one of the initiatives of the “Maarifa” database. It is issued by 19 Arab countries and 8 foreign countries. Data from nearly 5,000 scientific and research journals and more than 271 Arab authors were examined. More than 700,000 scientific articles in various specialties were cited, and articles by more than 64,000 Arab authors were cited.
