This came during the Minister’s supervision of the commemoration of the sixth anniversary of the launch of the “AlcomSat 1” satellite at the headquarters of the Algerian Space Agency, in the presence of the Minister of Post and Information and Communication Technologies, Karim Bibi Triki, accompanied by the Minister of Knowledge Economy and Emerging and Small Enterprises, Yassine Mahdi Walid, Director General of the Space Agency, Represented by the Prime Minister, the Director General of Algeria Telecom, the Director General of the TDA Foundation and high officials from the Algerie Telecom Satellite Agency.
Laqab explained that satellites are proving their presence in the era of integrated communications, noting the necessity of launching “AlcomSat 2” as soon as possible, and for it to have a commercial motive and the possibility of housing all radio and television channels.
After the Minister toured the various departments of the Algerian Space Agency and received comprehensive explanations about the working conditions and operation of the AlcomSat 1 satellite, the Minister himself stressed in his speech that Algeria today needs to strengthen its capabilities and capabilities in the field of satellites, explaining that almost all countries have private satellites. This is what we must do to enhance media sovereignty and national security for our country.
For his part, and in a speech on the occasion, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Karim Bibi Triki, pointed out the great importance of “AlcomSat 1” within Algeria’s satellite capabilities system, as it currently secures a total of 70 percent of the satellite bandwidth needs it exploits. Algeria Satellite Communications Corporation, which today operates more than 1,550 VSAT stations, thanks to close cooperation and coordination with the Algerian Space Agency.
The Minister highlighted the contribution of the satellite segment as a solution that guarantees additional resources to cover Internet needs, and provides the advantages of wide coverage in many isolated locations, spread over large distances, in an integrated and consistent manner with the capabilities provided by terrestrial fixed and mobile networks.
In this context, Tricky confirmed that, under previous directives from the President of the Republic, his ministerial department was assigned to prepare a comprehensive work plan aimed at studying how to exploit satellite technologies to provide Internet service, which the Ministry is working on doing in coordination with all concerned parties.
