Algeria displays in New York the outcome of its efforts to achieve the goals of sustainable development – Algerian dialogue

Abdelkader Breish, head of the Parliamentary Group of the National Building Movement, reviewed, today, Tuesday in New York, Algeria’s efforts to achieve the goals of sustainable development, explaining that it has recorded remarkable progress at all levels.

Breish’s offer included Algeria’s efforts, especially with regard to reducing poverty, ensuring free and compulsory education in the primary school stages, as well as ensuring health care for all members of society through an integrated system that was able to withstand during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Breish added that Algeria has recorded significant results in the field of ensuring the availability of safe energy, after the percentage of connection to the electricity network reached more than 99%, and that Algeria attaches great importance to achieving the sixth goal related to ensuring the provision of clean water.

With regard to this goal, the representative of the Council touched on building more seawater desalination plants in order to face the effects of climate change and water scarcity, explaining that Algeria intends to raise the percentage of providing the population with desalinated water to 60% in the horizons of 2030.

When addressing the role of the Algerian parliament in achieving the goals of sustainable development, Breish gave an overview of the laws that have been enacted to contribute to achieving these goals, and he also talked about approving the budget directed to achieve them.

Breish also mentioned the role of the Algerian Parliament in preparing and evaluating public policies aimed at achieving the goals of sustainable development, which was embodied, with regard to the environment, through the establishment of the Algerian Network for Environment and Climate.

Breish emphasized that environmental issues and confronting the effects of climate change receive special attention from Algerian parliamentarians, who are closely following the government’s efforts in this regard and evaluating them with the involvement of all actors in civil society.
