After Tebboune’s visit to Nouakchott…a Mauritanian journalist describes Algeria as Abyssinia for Muslims – New Algeria
The visit that led President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to the capital of Mauritania, “Nouakchott,” created a state of relief among some Mauritanian elites, who look with enthusiasm to strengthen relations with a country they consider to be a rising power and a strong, solid rock that can be relied upon to face the challenges that may face Mauritanians in the future.
Among the examples that can be pointed out here is what the Mauritanian newspaper “Al-Alam” wrote after President Tebboune’s visit to Nouakchott, which carried a lot of praise for Algeria. It was stated in the article that “Algeria is a country with a well-known political line regarding international politics, so its presidents do not travel abroad a lot, because they have a different view of what is going on in the world.”
The author of the article adds: “Alone, Algeria remained resistant to foreign plans, and was spared the Arab fire, the outcome of which was this monopolization of Gaza and the tearing apart of the Arab body. It is the era of the Nakba. Algeria is characterized by the fact that it is almost the Arab country whose men are still men. That’s how some know it. Gaddafi sent his family to it when he was certain of the end of his rule. It was like Abyssinia for the Muslims during the mission period, just as Gaddafi knew that they would not hand over his family even if it cost them a war. “It is a magnanimity that is hardly seen in today’s world.”
The author of the article, journalist and political analyst Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Bakkar, praises the Algerian position on the barbaric and brutal Zionist aggression against the brothers in Palestine: “It is alone in our environment that declares hostility to the Zionists and rejects subordination to the West. I rejected all French and American security approaches in our region. She still knows the word “no,” which has died in our masculine Arab political dictionary.”
Regarding President Tebboune’s visit to Mauritania, he comments: “The visit of the President of Algeria to us is not like the visit of any president. It is a sister country, with which we have broad borders, strong interests, and strong security coordination, with its honorable history of supporting us. It continued to stand with us in all circumstances, especially the circumstances of its upbringing (the nationalization of Mifrema, where it received the late Ahmed Ould Zein, the late Jing Bouberfarba, and Ahmed Ould Daddah), as well as in our exit from the CFA franc zone.”
The article points out that it was Algeria that established an oil refinery in Nouadhibou, which supplies oil and fuel derivatives to the Mauritanians, which Ould Bakkar considered one of the “fundamental positions that helped us stand on our feet during the liquidation of the dark part of colonialism when we were in dire need of that.” Support, as it constantly expresses the bonds that are confirmed day after day.”
As for the reality of bilateral relations, he writes: “Today our relationship with Algeria is witnessing great development and openness on several levels, commercial, political and security,” noting that “President Tebboune is one of the presidents who appreciates the importance of the relationship with us and considers us a bridge to Africa.” He is carrying out important projects in this regard and has been very open to us.”
He adds: “Algerian investors have flocked to our country with a gesture from him (President Tebboune), and the great commercial and economic road ends at the Mauritanian crossing. Thus, we can benefit from many Algerian industries. Only four days are enough for the Algerian product to arrive in Mauritania. “It is a major development factor for the Algerian industry, to reach and surpass us in African markets.”
