More than one million quintals of various types of grains are expected to be produced as part of the harvest campaign for the 2023/2024 agricultural season, which continues in the state of Adrar, according to the state’s Directorate of Agricultural Services, reported Tuesday.
The total cultivated area of ​​grains during this agricultural season is more than 22,950 hectares, of which 17,249 hectares are under pivot spraying, and the rest of the area is oasis agriculture, with an increase in area estimated at 20 percent compared to the previous agricultural season, according to the same source.
The various types of grains grown under pivot spraying are distributed over more than 16,000 hectares of hard wheat, expected to produce more than 800,230 quintals, and 136 hectares of soft wheat, with an expected production of more than 5,000 quintals, in addition to 377 hectares of barley and 45 hectares of khartal, with a total yield of these varieties estimated at 47 quintals. Per hectare, as indicated.

The local authorities and the guardian authorities have harnessed all material and human capabilities to make this campaign a success by harnessing the necessary equipment, including harvesters and trucks to transport the crop, and allocating centers to collect grains for later transport to storage silos.

Comprehensive data related to the state’s capabilities in the field of agriculture indicate that it has a total agricultural area exceeding 653,640 hectares, of which more than 180,000 hectares are under the concession and 54,500 hectares are under the supervision of the Bureau for the Development of Industrial Agriculture in Desert Lands, which is headquartered in the state of Mania, and more than 399,000 hectares are under the framework of Possession of real estate property and 17,000 hectares in the traditional oasis sector.

The exploited area of ​​this total area is estimated at about 40,000 hectares distributed across various agricultural areas, of which more than 38,000 hectares are irrigated, equivalent to 2 percent of the total agricultural area in the state, as was explained.

In a related context, the same departments explained that yellow corn production also witnessed an increase in the cultivated area during the current agricultural season, which jumped from 6,230 hectares to more than 7,440 hectares under pivot spraying.

The yellow corn harvest campaign for the current agricultural season achieved the production of 221,130 quintals from a harvested area of ​​3,922 hectares, with a production yield estimated at 51 quintals per hectare, while the fodder area amounted to about 3,370 hectares, with a production of approximately 860,000 quintals of yellow corn, according to the same source.
