Activating the role of parliamentary diplomacy between Algeria and Saudi Arabia – Algerian Dialogue

On the sidelines of the 49th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Union of Councils of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held in the capital, Abidjan, today, Tuesday, the delegation of the National People’s Assembly, led by Mr. Munther Boudin, Vice-President of the National People’s Assembly, and his representative met with the delegation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

At the outset of the meeting, Boden renewed the congratulations of the Saudi side for the Kingdom’s success in organizing the Hajj season for this year.

After that, Boden touched on the reality of bilateral relations, considering that the two countries had made great strides in activating the role of parliamentary diplomacy, especially after the recent visit of the head of the Saudi Shura Council to Algeria and his participation before that in the 17th session of the Conference of the Union of Councils of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

For his part, a member of the Saudi Shura Council affirmed the quality of the Saudi-Algerian relations, which not only serve the interests of the two countries, but also serve the entire Islamic nation. He praised Algeria’s position in relation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its glorious history of struggle, and pointed to the existence of strong ties between the two countries, adding that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is living in a new era of development in various fields, and that the current international situation encourages greater cooperation and coordination between the two countries.

At the parliamentary level, the head of the Saudi delegation stressed the importance of activating the parliamentary friendship committees, which he considered an auxiliary factor and a locomotive for rapprochement between the two countries, considering the partnership with Algeria a priority for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

After that, Boden touched on the fundamental reforms initiated by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at the various political, legal and economic levels, and stressed that Algeria is betting on getting out of dependence on hydrocarbons, as he called, in this context, for more cooperation between the two countries to achieve common goals.
