Aboul Gheit: Algeria will be the best defender of Arab causes – the Algerian Dialogue
The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, congratulated Algeria on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2024-2025, expressing his confidence that it will be “the best representative and defender of Arab causes” during this term.
Aboul Gheit said: “I congratulate Algeria on its election as a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the period 2024-2025, and I am confident that it will be the best representative and defender of Arab causes during this period.”
On Tuesday, the United Nations General Assembly in New York elected Algeria as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, provided that its term begins on January 1, 2024, until December 31, 2025.
Thus, this will be the fourth time in Algeria’s history that it has won a non-permanent seat in the Security Council, after the terms of 1968-1969, 1988-1989 and 2004-2005.
Algeria’s election to this seat was widely welcomed internationally, by virtue of its weight and role at the regional, regional and international levels.
In addition to Algeria, Sierra Leone, South Korea, Guyana and Slovenia were also elected as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council.
