Adviser to the President of the Republic in charge of the National Archives and National Memory, Abd al-Majid Sheikhi, affirmed that the historian must be stripped of his emotions when writing history, and look at the reviewer with insight and certainty, and not write according to his whims and away from his feelings.

In the same context, Sheikhi said, “Although it is difficult for the historian to depart from his objectivity, culture, and traditions, he must try to preserve the historical process and convey it in its entirety.”

With regard to the National Day of Memory and the events of May 8, the advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of the archive and national memory explained that Algeria is rich in a huge amount of events that require stopping and contemplating them, in order to know them from all sides and to list them for future generations and introduce them.

And when he narrated one of the historical facts, my sheikh highlighted that Algeria is considered by many leaders and fighters in the revolutionary era as being called “Algeria Munawara”, and this is an indication of its glorious history, and its pure blood that it paid during the French colonialism for the sake of independence.

Sheikhi said, “The massacres of May 8, 1945 are not an indication of the brutality of the colonizer who wanted to obliterate his identity and mortgage the future of Algeria in the most horrific ways, and to undermine the awareness gained in that era.”

Abdel Majeed Sheikhi urged the youth to be proud of Algeria, especially since these days constitute the memory of Algeria, and it is one of the characteristics that God has bestowed on Algerians in order to compare it with historical situations and stop there.

Sheikhi stressed that this stand coincides with a great event that highlights the patience of Algerians and at the same time a painful memory, saying in this regard, “We do not want to forget our memory.” What happened in this good country should be an example for the present generations and a lesson that must be learned.
