A training course for high-level technicians in controlling locusts for African students – New Algeria
Launch revealed Formative course For senior technicians specialized in locust control, for the benefit of African students, who will represent member countries of the Migratory Locust Control Commission in the Western Region. This 30-month training includes ten African students from Niger, Mali, Mauritania and Chad, in addition to Algerian students.

The launching ceremony of the training course was held at the level Institute Technologist specializing in agricultural training, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hamid bin Saed, and the Executive Secretary of the Migratory Locust Control Authority in the Western Region, Muhammad Al-Amin Hamouni.
Humaid bin Saed stressed the importance of this initiative, which falls within the framework of South-South cooperation, considering that training senior technicians is the best way to strengthen the mechanism of prevention and control of locusts on the field.
He added, “Such training will allow us to obtain a new generation of technicians who control advanced technologies related to this field,” highlighting in this regard the Algerian experience in this field.
Not far from that, the same speaker pointed out that “Algeria is a pioneer in Genesis And combating locusts at the regional level, especially through its experience, its specialized institutions, and the competence of its experts,” he explained, explaining that this training will be expanded into other courses in order to prolong the duration of this initiative directed at African countries.
Regarding the situation of the spread of locusts in the countries of the Migratory Locust Control Authority in the Western Region, the same interventionist indicated that the situation is still “calm,” saying, “There is no major invasion, but prevention remains necessary,” indicating that the Authority always seeks to raise awareness about The proactive strategy to prevent any possible appearance of migratory locusts in the region.
For his part, the Executive Secretary of the Migratory Locust Control Authority in the Western Region praised Algeria’s commitment to the Sahel, considering that the country has provided all appropriate conditions to ensure the success of this training.
He also added, “In addition to its proven experience in the field of locust control, Algeria, which hosts the Commission’s headquarters (established in 2002), has specialized schools and training centers,” pointing in particular to the National Institute for Plant Protection and the National Higher School. Agriculture, in addition to the National Institute for Agricultural Guidance.
