Algerian international defender Issa Mandi contributed to his club Villarreal’s 3-2 victory over its guest Celta Vigo, on Wednesday, in the match of the 18th week of the Spanish League Championship, which was hosted by the “La Ceramica” stadium.
The match saw Mandy participate in the starting lineup, for the second time in a row since his return from injury.
The Desert Warrior left his mark on this occasion, as he not only provided a good defensive performance, but was able to reach the opponent’s net five minutes before the end of the first half.
Mandy took advantage of the poor monitoring of Celta Vigo’s defence, and shot a rebound towards the goal that goalkeeper Vicente Guaita could not stop.
This is Mandy’s first goal in the current season in a Villarreal shirt, after he missed scoring for two full years, as the last time he visited the opponents’ net dates back to December 2021 in the Yellow Submarines’ confrontation against Rayo Vallecano.

Marcelino confirms his confidence in the Algerian
Spanish coach Marcelino Garcia Toral succeeded in achieving his fifth victory after nine matches in which he supervised the team since he took office at the end of last month.
The former Olympique Marseille coach is seeking to make some changes to the team’s starting lineup, especially after the negative results that led to the dismissal of coach Bacheta a short period after his appointment (two months).
The arrival of Marcelino was accompanied by the return of Mandy to his starting appearance after his recovery from injury, as he was relied upon along with captain Raul Albiol in the last two matches, excluding the young Spanish defender Jorge Cuenca.
The Algerian raised the number of his starting appearances to nine in the Spanish League this season, which will serve his interests more before moving with the national team to Ivory Coast to attend the African Cup of Nations finals.
