Today, Sunday in Algiers, the Ministry of Justice, in cooperation with the Department of the European Program to Combat Cybercrime, organized a symposium on “Cybercrime”, with the participation of national and foreign actors.
By the way, the Acting Director General of Judicial and Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Justice, Abdul Razzaq bin Salem, explained that the symposium, which comes within the framework of the “CyberSud” program, related to cybercrime and digital evidence, aims to “evaluate what has been accomplished and prepare for the next project, which will be published in 2024.” .
He added, “The program enabled the strengthening of the capabilities of the judicial police and judges in a very sensitive field of cybercrime, while the future focus will be on tools in various areas of cooperation.”
Bin Salem stressed that the national legislative system is an integrated system that was recently strengthened by the installation of the National Authority for the Protection of Personal Data, which makes the legislative, regulatory and institutional frameworks respond to the international standards included in the Budapest Convention to Combat Information Crimes, as well as the First and Second Protocols.
In the same context, he touched on the importance of international cooperation in the field of combating cybercrime, which is characterized by its cross-border nature, noting that the program was useful in this aspect, especially with regard to dealing with intangible evidence.
For his part, the advisor to the European Union mission in Algeria, Luca Mangiat, highlighted the importance of protecting private data in accordance with the Budapest Convention, praising Algeria’s installation of the National Authority for the Protection of Personal Data.
In turn, Denise Mazzolani, head of the “CyberSud” program at the Cybercrime Program Office of the Council of Europe, praised the progress achieved by Algeria in this field, by strengthening capabilities and mechanisms for protecting personal data, as well as training qualified personnel.
