A joint ministerial meeting on financing the agricultural sector – Algerian Dialogue

Yesterday, Sunday in Algiers, the Minister of Finance, Laziz Fayed, and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Youssef Charfa, chaired a joint consultative ministerial meeting with the aim of identifying and removing obstacles related to the implementation and financing of investment programs in the agricultural sector, according to a statement by the Ministry of Finance.
The statement explained that the two ministers closely studied, during the working session that took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Finance, “the challenges facing the agricultural sector, highlighting its strategic importance to the national economy.”
The Ministry explained in its statement that the meeting witnessed “in-depth talks” in order to develop real solutions to overcome current obstacles and liberate the capabilities of the agricultural sector.
During the meeting, Mr. Fayed renewed “his ministry’s commitment to strongly support the agriculture sector by accompanying it within the framework of an approach based on a new type of governance with regard to public finance,” noting “the necessity of planning, programming, and diversifying financial resources in order to ensure sustainable growth for the sector.”
For his part, Mr. Sharfa stressed “the necessity of ensuring food security for the country,” stressing “the importance of close cooperation between all concerned parties in order to ensure market stability and the continuous availability of basic foodstuffs.”
The commitments taken during this meeting included “directed financial measures and initiatives aimed at strengthening the sector’s resilience in the face of global market fluctuations and climate change,” according to the statement.
The two ministers affirmed their “determination to create an environment conducive to sustainable growth of agriculture, in a way that supports national food security.”
The two ministers also expressed their “continuous desire to work hand in hand with actors in this sector, in order to ensure its development and meet the basic needs of citizens.”
