African Handball Cup: Egypt reaches the final
The 26th edition of the African Cup of Nations Handball Championship held in Egypt, which qualifies for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, revealed the first organizers of its final match scheduled to be held on Saturday.
The defending champion, the owner of the land and the fans, the Egyptian national team, succeeded in defeating its Tunisian counterpart, on Thursday, with a score of 30-25 in the confrontation hosted in the indoor hall of the Cairo International Stadium.
Spanish coach Juan Carlos Pastor, who previously gave his country the World Championship title in 2006 in Tunisia, led the Egyptian team to its fifth continental final in a row.
A strong team is a candidate to maintain the title
The Egyptian team imposed its control over the match from the beginning, and was able to finish the first stage with a five-goal difference (17-12).
The African champions, on eight occasions, showed great solidity in the defense line after they stopped most of the attacks of the Tunisian team, which relied on shooting from afar to break the strong barrier of its opponent.
The Carthage Eagles’ performance improved in the second half, reducing the gap to three goals in the first ten minutes, but their resistance to Egyptian pressure did not last long.
Ali Zein’s teammates regained control and expanded the gap again to five goals throughout most of this half, which was the final result that the match settled on with a total of 30 goals for the Pharaohs compared to 25 for Tunisia.
Left-back Yahya Al-Daraa, the former Zamalek star, who currently plays for the Hungarian club Veszprém, was chosen as the best player in the interview.
In the final scene, the descendants of the Pharaohs face the winner of the national team’s match against its counterpart from the Cape Verde Islands, the final tonic of the previous edition.
