The Iranian President and a number of his companions died in a presidential helicopter crash – Algerian Dialogue
Iranian state television confirmed the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, and their accompanying delegation, after the helicopter they were traveling in was found the day after it was involved in an “accident” in a rugged mountainous area in East Azerbaijan province.
In this regard, Mehr Agency reported that “Ibrahim Raisi was martyred” along with his accompanying delegation, which included in particular Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian.
State television had previously confirmed that “no sign” of life was detected among the wreckage.
In international reactions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov offered his condolences on the death of Iran’s President, Ebrahim Raisi.
He said that Russia lost “two true friends” with the killing of the Iranian president and his foreign minister.
From Doha, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, said on the “X” platform: My sincere condolences to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the death of President Ebrahim Raisi.
In Cairo, the Egyptian presidency said, “President Sisi expresses the solidarity of the Arab Republic of Egypt with the Iranian leadership and people in this great tragedy.”
Lebanon, Iraq, Pakistan and others declared three days of mourning.
It is noteworthy that the Iranian president’s helicopter was part of a convoy of three helicopters carrying him, accompanied by other officials, and Tasnim Agency reported that the other two helicopters “arrived at their destination safely.”
